Very pleasantly surprised!! March 6, 2010 Ian Johnson (Palmdale, CA. USA) Considering the price (much cheaper than most other wifi skype phones), and the fact that I've never heard of IPEVO, I have been very pleasantly surprised with this phone. I previously had the Netgear Skype Phone (not the WiFi one) and it was OK, but not great and very quirky.
This new phone is a million times better and so simple to use. I had it set up and working literally five minutes after I took it out of the box, it was a snap.
After reading the other reviews here I made a point of going straight to the IPEVO website and updating the software and firmware immediately, and it obviously made a difference because the call quality I have been getting is amazing. I'd say it's as good, if not better, than my land line and absolutely NO echo.
My only "complaint" is I wish the ear-bud was better, but then I've never ever had one that was any good from any manufacturer and frankly I don't know why they even bother with them. This phone would be absolutely perfect if it had Bluetooth connectivity to use an ear-piece with it.
So far so good and I'm a very happy customer. I just hope it lasts! Based on some of these reviews I'm not so confident in IPEVO as a company, but as long as the phone keeps on working the way it does now I shouldn't ever have to deal with them!
poor wireless connection March 6, 2010 C. Lin (New York, NY USA) purchased this skype phone from manufacturer website... very disappointed
poor wireless connection, kept dropping at home and at office. can not access public wifi because no browser built-in
returned the product already
not ready for prime time phone February 28, 2010 A. Bierman (LA) This phone is not worth the money.
It has problems with lots of wifi routers, so it
just silently falls of the wifi network. The sound is awful.
There is no speakerphone. There are no cool phone features
like a real mobile phone. The skype contact list is awful,
and does not let you attach names and addresses to mobile
phone numbers.
Worst of all, when you do the firmware upgrade from
the IPEVO WEB site, you have to completely reconfigure
the phone from scratch. It loses every setting and it takes you
about 20 minutes to re-enter everything.
Works perfectly February 26, 2010 M. C. Bernier (Spain) Works like a charm and you use it the same way you use your Skype.
I find it practicle because you can receive your calls anywhere in the house.
Connects to the wireless.
I had high hopes.. but it turns out very unreliable.. February 22, 2010 M. Bogucki (SAINT PAUL, MN, US) I've read lots of reviews before buying.. The reviews seemed pretty good with some issues..
I haven't seen the issues I'm encountering in the reviews. I've had this phone for about 1 week.
The issues I encountered so far are:
1. The phone doesn't ring MOST OF THE TIME when called. Sometimes when I'm trying it I cannot get it to ring at all (I can of course call FROM it without problems). Then sometimes it will ring.
2. I've had problem when the phone was showing on the screen when someone was ringing, but it wasn't (audibly) ringing whatsoever - no sound. I had to reset it completely to get rid of this problem. So far it happened once. (Well right now I get problem #1 - no ringing at all)
3. Couple of times the phone lost all the settings: I had to go through all the menus, selecting country, and entering my skype login information to use it again.
Improvement would be nice for these:
1. There's no warning before battery dies.. Phone just shuts off when battery runs out without warning.
2. Some contact management would be great. I have a lot of contacts on skype, but I don't necessarily want to see them all at once on the phone. Maybe implementing skype's feature of contact groups would do the trick of having smaller list of contacts.. also:
3. Speed dial feature would be great.
4. Everyone would love this: be able to have some other apps working with wi-fi. Email, calendar maybe some basic browsing.. yea.. that's probably lot to ask. At least email would be great though.
So.. well.. yes.. I had probably much higher hopes. Those issues / quirks I listed make this phone not usable as basic phone
