Grandparents' Dream Gift! March 9, 2010 TN I bought one of these for my nephew, and one for my son, this past Christmas. They LOVE calling and seeing eachother on the screen. It is really cool for people who have family out of town. (You will both need to buy one though). I actually just bought a 3rd one for my parents who live across the country.
They are SO EXCITED to be able to see their grandchildren every day! It is really a grandparent's dream gift! The video isn't the best, but it is pretty darn good! There is a little gray/fuzziness, but not too much. Have you seen when Oprah Skypes on her show? It's just like that.
But don't think the picture on your screen is going to look like the picture they show you on the product box. It isn't that clear! That is a photograph.
Overall, we are really happy with it! For $250 and free video calls, it's worth it!
EXCELENT FOR GRAND PARENTS March 7, 2010 Jose A. Cisneros (Boca Raton, FL USA) Easy to setup and use, the battery has very short duration about 30 to 60 min, otherwise a good product for people you want to reach with skype, but can't or will not be able to use a laptop or pc. The camera quality could be better compare with netbooks.
Great product but.... March 4, 2010 Jim Cantin The unit works fantastic plugged into a network, but getting it configured to work on WIFI..isn't really a possibility. It works great plugged into the wall for power BUT battery life is atrocious! I plugged it into a router and it worked like a charm, Tech support is pretty much nonexistant. Best used by a techie.
Highly Disappointed - Never Connected - Had to return it February 28, 2010 C. Requist (Steamboat Springs, CO United States) I would give this product 0 stars if I could since we couldn't use it at all.
I bought this for my parents (who are in the 80s) to be able to video chat with their preTeen grandchildren who all have computers, Skype and webcams.
I am highly disappointed that I could never get it to connect to the network either wireless or wired. When I took the wired cable out of the wireless router (coming from the access point) and plugged it directly into the unit and it still couldn't find wired Internet, I gave up, boxed it up and am shipping it back.
The manual for this product and scant and useless - no troubleshooting section or anything to help if the install does not work perfectly as described. In fact, on one page of the manual, it refers to a connection page, but that page number is not in English.
There does not appear to be any way to get tech support from ASUSTek. No phone numbers, website, email Twitter, Facebook No ANY WAY to get in touch with them.
I did call Tiger Direct (since Amazon indicated that Tiger Direct was fulfilling the product). Their service person was sweet and wonderful but could not find an order from me although he tried and tried. However, he unfortunately didn't have any product knowledge, so I just returned it through Amazon return process (which is great).
IF there is a way to get this product working, it should be wonderful, but I am going to wait for a standalone Skype Videophone from another company.

ASUS Skype Video Phone Touch SV1TS
The ASUS Skype Video Phone Touch SV1TS (Silver/Blue) is one of the newer Skype phones that brings PC-less video calls to Skype. It's an all-in-one unit with a 7-inch 800x480 touch-screen display, built-in microphone, speaker, webcam, wifi and ethernet, and jacks for optional external headset. The phone also comes with a rechargeable battery pack.
The touch screen and menus made it a breeze to setup and start making calls in a couple of minutes. Audio quality is great but the video resolution leaves a lot to be desired. The complete package is also rather bulky, weighing in at 1.6 kg (about 3.5 lb) and at 25.3 cm (9.9 in) tall. The photographs of the phone don't highlight this aspect but when seen in-person, the phone is definitely heavy and huge! One of the big disadvantages of this phone is the lack of portability compared to the cordless/wifi Skype handsets. Since the focus is on video calls, it can only be used a desk, making it unsuitable for causal home use as a replacement for a landline. The phone would have been a better package if it also included a cordless or wifi handset for non-video calls. After a few minutes of use, these disadvantages outweighed the cool-factor of the video and touch screen, and I had to return the phone.
