4 out of 5 stars Really not intuitive   February 24, 2010
Dan Connors (San Diego)
I have to admit, I found the installation instructions very unclear. I installed this on a MAC, so I needed to get the MAC version of the software. Here are the things I had trouble with (and are not particularly covered in the documentation:
1. How to switch from Skype to Landline: Pick up the telephone, press the asterisk.
2. How to place a Skype call: Pick up the telephone, if USB light is not lit, press asterisk. Then dial:
(for a call in the US): 001 {area code} {7-digit number} #
Do not use the Skype interface for dialing.
Still having trouble entering numbers once the other party answers (like for a conference call, for example). Seem to be on the wrong frequency.

5 out of 5 stars Gotta mess with your windows sound settings   February 12, 2010

Overall, works exactly as described and as expected. I now receive calls through my skype number on what I call my 'internet phone'. Actually I set up Google Voice to ring both my skype (home) and cell phone at the same time, then it connects to whatever phone I pick up first. Totally cool, and saves me minutes on the cell plan.

Works as advertised with Skype. The msnmate driver has no docs that I can find anywhere!! If used with Skypemate you will haave no problems!!

5 out of 5 stars Works Great & Good Value   January 8, 2010

I received my order from Ce Compass within a few days of ordering. The phone adapter was extremely easy to setup. I would say it didn't take more then 10 minutes to be up and running. If you don't have skype installed you need to do that first and set up an account. Instead of using the CD I went over to download the latest skypemate software at: [...]
After installed I then told SKYPE (message comes up in skype)to allow SkypeMate to control it, In Skype under Tools->Options->Audio Settings make sure the Microphone is selected to "USB Audio Device" and for Speakers "USB Audio Device" and for Ringing "USB Audio Device". Then I right clicked on SkyeMate and under Advanced->Device Options I set adapter default channel to "USB" (my choice) and now you should be able to make calls.

By doing the above you should have no sound going through your speakers.

For my setup I use a corded phone plugged into the phone adapter but I don't use a pstn line with it. I can send and receive calls without any problems and voice quality is very good. I'm very happy with the product.
