Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Make and take calls on both networks from one single handset and you can see who is on-line without going to the PC. SkypeOut is a low cost way to make calls from Skype to friends who still use a traditional landline or mobile phone. With Skype you can enjoy making free calls all over the world to any other Skype users. With a single press on the Skype key, you can directly access your Skype contacts list. The list of the users currently logged on to Skype is displayed and you can see their online status. This Skype key also enables you to take the line (once the contact selected) and to make a Skype call (Skype & SkypeOut). This dualphone enables you to make calls via Internet or/and via a normal landline with the mobility, voice quality & ease of use of a cordless phone. Enjoy making free calls over the Internet without sitting in front of your computer. You can see your Skype contacts list directly on your handset. 1 out of 5 stars Do not purchase!   January 3, 2009
Ryan E. Reed (Turkey)
This phone has to be connected to your pc to work and when connected it disables your sound and the drivers for it do not always work with skype software updates. Save yourself the hassle and do a search for the netgear phone that does not need a pc to be connected to skype. You will be happy in the long run. I'm purchasing a netgear phone Netgear SPH200D Cordless Phone right now.

be warned

3 out of 5 stars Great clarity, lacking in features   December 16, 2008

Philips VOIP 321 Skype Dual Phone Single Handset ( VOIP3211G/37 )
Just received this for Christmas, per my request for a Skype phone. This is a dual mode phone (I do not need the land line feature).
Pros:
Excellent clarity.
Simple to use.
Fairly easy set up.

Cons:
Setup installs drivers and new Skype at the same time - do not restart computer until all setups have finished.
Cannot dial Skype-out calls from handset - has to be done through Skype on PC. This is a big CON for me. I want to use this to supplement my cell phone minutes as I don't have a land line.
Screen is low resolution and does not show the whole name of Skype contact. This can be got around easily enough, but still...

Overall, this is a nice, clear phone. If you want it by your PC for Skyping folks then get it. I would give it ***** 5 stars for that purpose.

4 out of 5 stars Solid Handset   October 19, 2008
James E. Schaefer (Seattle)
Positives:

-Manufacturing quality is good (Philips quality is generally very good)

-Voice quality is good (when drivers are updated and installed correctly)
I have been told the sound quality going out is as good or better than a land line. Sound quality coming into the handset has been more like a cell phone. Wrong settings and drivers will cause echos and lousy sound quality.

-Cordless

Negatives:

-Does require tweaking the software and operating system settings

-Works only when computer boots up

This phone can handle Vista and you can dial directly on SkypeOut from the handset (dial 00 1 area code and number in the US).

Remember to first go to the Philips site and download the latest drivers and then make sure to activate them (I use Windows XP).

Overall a nice phone for the money considering the prices of some Skype phones. However, I prefer the Belkin desktop model that requires no software setting adjustments and is always on (when modem is running). The Belkin does require a wired or wireless router and is corded.

1 out of 5 stars from good to bad   October 2, 2008
J. Hunt (Thailand)
At first this product worked well. Purchased one for my father too. Then my handset would no longer connect (after about 6 months). I tried a hard reset and everything the manual said. So I quit using this and just went back to the old headset and computer. My father's unit did the same thing after about a year or so. Coincidence?

2 out of 5 stars Good Product but ....   September 10, 2008

The phone works well but it has its limitations and there is missing data in the advertise information. For example it says you longer dont need a computer, but to make it work it have to be conected to the USB port and skype running in the computer, so it's not independent from the computer at all. At the same time it is not compatible with MAC OS, and it does say it.
If you want to have your computer on and work with windows its a good phone for the price. Ist simple, no luxury at all but can talk nice.
