I doesn't work on Windows 7 x64 January 7, 2010 Steve Burdette (VA, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
edit: I left my review below in tact so you could read it. I found out that the audio drivers don't work. Even though my phone now connects to skype, the audio and microphone drivers aren't functional so the sound can only come out of my speakers/computer headset. I am very disappointed in philips for abandoning such an expensive product.
Original review:
I have this exact model and I can confirm that it does work with windows 7 x64... they just have extremely poor instructions on their website.
When you download the vista drivers (labeled voip3211g_37_dwv_eng.exe), right click that .exe and run it in compatibility mode. After weeks trying to work with the drones over at philips tech support, I gave it one last try and it worked.
The phone itself is amazing once you get it working. I gave it 2/5 stars for ease of use because philips' website has false/vague instructions on how to get this product working. There is some weird feedback when I use the speaker phone but it's not bad. It's probably the best on the market. I've been using it for lan-line calls for 4 years now and it's never given me any problems. Now that you know it works on Windows 7, don't hesitate to buy it!
It DOES work with Windows 7 64-bit December 2, 2009 M. Jones (UK Aberdeen) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I originally bought four VOIP321 phones to run on an XP PC, and they have proved very reliable. I recently upgraded to a Windows 7 64-bit PC, and discovered that W7 wouldn't start VOIP321 as a sound device (showing a yellow exclamation mark under Devices). So I took the advice of 13roots from this thread (confirmed by posters on several other websites), and installed a VIA VT6212L chipset PCI card (£2.95 including postage from ebay in the UK) and used it to connect my VOIP321 hub to the PC. It now works perfectly with the latest Skype 4.1 software. Please spread the word.
Note that for W7, I used the VOIP321 Vista installation application run in Vista SP2 compatibility mode.
Philips VOIP 321 does not work with Skype August 3, 2009 Robert Cancilla (Elk Grove, California) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sadly this phone was a huge mistake on my part. I wanted a phone that would enable me to have Skype behave like a traditional telephone service with a standard portable hand held device like a traditional phone line. It installed ok and seemed to run fine until I began using it. I ran a series of tests and it worked fine. Then I get an incoming call via Skype and press the button on the hand held to answer the call. The party on the other end of the phone can hear me but I cannot hear them.
I called Philips technical support number. I was advised to remove the batteries from the remote and the base unit and if the problem persisted to return it to the vendor from which I bought the phone.
BOTTOM LINE: THIS PHONE DOES NOT WORK reliably with SKYPE!
Has potential June 25, 2009 An avid reader This is a nice looking phone with some great features. One thing that I love is the dual line. If I were to have a landline, this would make a big difference on local calls with the benefit of switching to Skype for inexpensive long distance. Another cool feature is the kid mode, where (when set) any key will forward to a number of my choosing, which is useful if, say, the kids are with a babysitter & need to reach us.
The phone does have some spotty reception at times, and battery life is definitely unclear. I charged it for 2 days straight (24 hours was recommended), but it still registered one bar on the meter. Just today, my wife reported a strange staticky sound and then the phone shut off, and this was after a full night of charging.
This phone has a lot of potential, but the jury's still out on if it's a definite solution for my Skype needs.
Excellent phone for normal and Skype June 12, 2009 S. Kumar Bought this phone because of the Skype feature. Works well and easy to install. Voice clear using skype esp on the receivers side. Have tried other solutions in the past but not as good. Excellent buy.
