Works Great, good price. April 13, 2008 Rob 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm really happy with this product. It was easy to install and to set Skype as the default. Call quality is good. I liked it so much that I bought a second one for a friend.
I'm using it with Windows XP, an old 900 Mhz cordless phone, and with Skype v3.6 as my only phone service. The Skypemate software that came with it was v2.4 so I downloaded v3.0 from http://www.von-phone.com/support-b2k.php. and used the manual from the same sight to install and set up.
I haven't tried it with a land line phone, but setup seems pretty straight forward
Unit added noise to line, but works like regular phone even without a land line February 5, 2007 Kevin S (Texas) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Maybe I got a defective one, but there was a slight humming sound even before it dialed (and no I am not talking about the dial tone). The sound was more noticeable with some phones than others, as some accentuated the frequency interference that this device added to the line. Again, the problem was the device and not Skype.
I bought an Actiontec Internet Phone Wizard instead and the noise was gone completely. So maybe I did get a defective unit, but either way there is probably some quality control issues with this device, or maybe all of them have the noise and some people don't notice. It's up to you to decide. With the Actiontec or DLINK, it will probably be much much clearer.
Also, the people posting saying you cannot dial out if you do not have a land line are COMPLETELY WRONG. You download the latest software, right click the system tray icon and choose advanced, then change the default mode to USB instead of POTS. Then you can dial by doing:
"001 areacode number #"
This will dial skype from any phone... If the device didn't have that interference to it, then I would have kept it as the software and functionality is very good, even without a land line.
This thing works just as described with a land line July 29, 2006 M. Brogan (LA Ca) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Ive tried the dlink skype adapter and this skytone from radion technologies. They both worked well. This one is a little cheaper. P2P voice over internet protocal technology is here. I use a cordless phone plugged into the adapter, the phone line plugs into the adapter, then the adapter plugs into the pc through a usb port. It is usb powered. The dialing sequence is all you need to switch to voip. Asterisk, country code, area code, phone number, pound sign. Standard dailing, travels through the standard phone line. Super simple, super cheap,(or free) very clear phone calls.

This product only works properly if you have a phone line and are using skype. Do not use this product if all you plan to use is skype, it does not react well to this scenario. But, if you are looking for a way to get cheap long distance for your existing phone service this is a great device.
Works great. No problems. December 11, 2005 K.S. (Chicago, IL, USA) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
The adapter works great. The only problem, like LKR wrote, is that your phone needs to be plugged in to your USB port. This also means that your phone is essentially dead until you dial the number on SKYPE. You cannot dial a phone number using SKYPE using your regular phone (you have to purchase a SKYPE phone for this and be corded to your computer).
Once you dial the number from the computer, you can pick up your phone and walk away from it. I live in an apartment, so this isn't a problem for me. But, it I lived in a two- or three-story house and I want to be mobile, I would have to go to the room where the computer is, dial the phone number, and walk back to the room where I want to complete the phone call. This is an inherent problem with SKYPE being a P2P service rather than a VOIP service. IT IS NOT A PRODUCT PROBLEM.
