Ooma: The New Way to Call
Switching to Ooma lets you enjoy all the benefits of a local and long distance telephone service, but without the high costs or monthly bills. By adding an Ooma Telo to your landline and to your high-speed Internet service, you can make calls anywhere in the United States for free, without any monthly charges. At the same time, international calls will be pennies on the dollar. And by replacing your landline with an Ooma Telo Cordless Handset, you can immediately access all the great calling features that Ooma offers.

DECT 6.0 Technology for Maximum Clarity
The Ooma Telo's sound quality has often been described as "better than a landline." With the Ooma Handset, you'll enjoy even greater clarity. It features DECT 6.0 technology, which guarantees reception and security without interfering with your local Wi-Fi network. It also maximizes your handset's range, allowing you to wander freely about your house while talking.

Advanced Voicemail Features
The Ooma Handset helps you make the most of Ooma's superior voicemail options. At the touch of a button, you can listen to your voicemail from anywhere in your house. If you're screening your calls, you can activate the "Do Not Disturb" mode and forward all of your calls to voicemail. You can even record your calls to voicemail by pressing the "Sent to Voicemail" button after you've picked up the phone.

Online Phonebook Access
The Ooma Handset allows you to download your entire online phonebook and access it at any time. You'll be able to look up and dial numbers from anywhere in the house, without having to refer to your address book first.

Caller ID for Effective Call Screening
With the Ooma Handset, you'll know who's calling before you answer the phone. The Ooma Handset displays the incoming caller's number, allowing you to avoid unwanted calls. If you don't recognize the caller, you'll have the option to listen to their message first and then decide whether you want to pick up.

Instant Second Line
If you share your house with a phone hog, Ooma's Instant Second Line feature presents a solution for you. When the line is already in use, you can simply pick up a second Ooma Handset and get a fresh dial tone. Up to two separate calls can be made simultaneously.

Personal Number
With an affordable Ooma Premier subscription, you'll gain access to the Personal Number feature. This feature allows you to create a unique phone number for everyone in the family. Multiple numbers can be mapped to the same handset, but you can make each number ring distinctively so you know who the call is for. Up to nine additional numbers are allowed.

Add Unwanted Callers to Your Blacklist
The Ooma Handset also allows you to instantly add unwanted callers to your blocked list. If telemarketers are harassing you, simply press the "Blacklist" button to avoid future calls.

Loud, Clear Speakerphone
The Ooma Handset features a built-in speakerphone with loud and crisp sound. When you need to multitask, just activate the speakerphone for hands-free conversation.

Intercom
With the intercom feature, you can use multiple Ooma handsets like walkie-talkies to communicate with family members from room to room. You can also use the intercom to transfer calls between different handsets.

Detailed Call Log
The Ooma Handset's detailed call log helps you keep a meticulous record of your phone history. It allows you to view all incoming calls, outgoing calls, and call duration.

3 out of 5 stars Not comfortable in the hand   September 3, 2010
Jim Dowson (Harvard, MA)
(-) edges of the plastic case are unnecessarily sharp, and the unit is not comfortable to hold.

(+) managing contacts on the web interface looks promising (still in beta).

(~) sound quality is good (usually), but there are times when an echo occurs.

(~) should allow more than 4 handsets per base station

5 out of 5 stars Ooma is the future of the home telephone.   September 2, 2010

I've been telling all my friends and family about Ooma. I love not having a phone bill anymore! The voice quality is great, setup was super easy and many of the features I used to pay for are free. Plus it looks cute! In addition, I get services that my phone company could never provide. I love that I have the option of having my home voicemail emailed to me at work as an audio file, within seconds. To top it off, this ingenious device has paid for itself in 6 months. What is not to love about Ooma?

4 out of 5 stars Love it, with a caveat!   September 2, 2010
D. Shillcock (California)
I love my Ooma service ... with one caveat! When it doesn't work, it's a nightmare. For the first two years, I experienced great connection and great voice quality. Lately, I have dropped calls, intermittent connection, and other problems with the features I love. Tech support has trouble identifying the problem, whether it's my internet service or Ooma. So that's the down side. DON'T get rid of your landline if you depend on the phone for your business or livelihood. Cell phone backup is great, but not for hours of phone-conferencing. I still love Ooma and hope they resolve these issues so I can continue to be a happy customer. By the way, the handset for the Telo didn't work for me, wiht poor sound quality and poor battery life on a brand new phone. Don't get rid of your phones. I didn't believe it could be as bad as the reviews said. It's only good for retrieving messages away from the base for me. I hope the next release has major improvements.

3 out of 5 stars So far, So good   September 2, 2010
Andrew I. Munro Sr. (Park City, Utah, United States)
Having read the reviews, I was concerned. But I honestly think people are giving the phone a bad rap. Yes, it has a plastic feel to it, which I don't like. It is very light which is probably why some reviewers say that it feels like a toy.
Performance wise, it's fine. I was especially happy that a friend staying in our home was able to set up her own number on our account and all she needed was the handset. Customer Service helped me set it up so she has her own private voicemail and it only rings in her room, plus the other Telo handsets we have don't ring on her line. It was very easy to set, both for her and for us. The phones pair easily with the base. Sound quality seems fine, maybe a tad tinny on the earpiece, but people we call say we are very clear indeed.
I also have the old Ooma phone system at my other residence, I love that one also, especially as you can use your own phones, but at the end of the day you need the Scout and your own phone, whereas with the Telo Handset you just need the one item, one less piece of stuff around the place !.I was one of Ooma's first customers, back in the day when their Customer Support was in the good old USA !
So to sum up, 3 stars for the Telo Handset and a resounding 5 stars for the Ooma service.

5 out of 5 stars Works flawlessly   September 2, 2010
Dan Lau (Southern California)
My OOMA works flawlessly. It integrated with my existing Panasonic wireless system perfectly, and installation was a breeze. I have a two line Premier system and OOMA mobile on my iPhone. With the multi-ring (calls ring on both your land line and your mobile phone) capability I can receive OOMA calls while I am out or the office so I never have to miss an important business call. I can also make both national and international calls from my mobile phone (OOMA Premier gives me an additional 250 minutes per month to make outbound calls through my mobile phone) so I save my mobile minutes when I make a mobile call through OOMA. The sound quality is great, I can send and receive faxes, and blacklist irritating telemarketing calls. Even with the Premier service OOMA has reduced my phone bill by over $50.00 per month and has given me features that I didn't have before.

I would have loved to have had more video's describing the OOMA features before I bought the system. I probably would have bought it sooner if I knew all that it could do.
