4 out of 5 stars easy to use, but call quality is just okay, not great   September 5, 2010

easy to use, but call quality is just okay, not great. For the price, its a good deal, if you are not hung up about call quality.

1 out of 5 stars There's no magic with magicjack   September 5, 2010
K. Tran (VA)
With cheap price comes cheap service and quality. We have been a magijack customer for approximately 4 years because we are stuck with a 5 year contract. Magicjack is absolutely unreliable. Calls are frequently dropped with poor quality. Calls would be dropped after 15 minutes. We had to pay an additional $10.00 for a replacement module because the first one went bad after a year (please note - there is no free replacement even with the same phone number and unexpired contract). Customer service blames the cause for the defective module on everything else, except for the cheaply made product itself. Check out other recent reviews on Magicjack. The jack only works for a short period of time. There's practically no customer serice. Magicjack even admitted on their own website that one should fix their own problem. The good part about Magicjack is that is is so cheap ($20.00 a year) that most people don't care if they get bad service most of the time. We would imagine that magicjack will go out of business within the short future if they do not improve the quality of the service.

1 out of 5 stars Unacceptable   September 2, 2010

Keep getting my calls dropped during conversation which is totally unacceptable. Or, can't even get a dial tone when I need to make a call (right now for instance). Or, I call any number and get three busy tones and then the call is dropped. First unit burned out and had to be replaced. Yes, we all want to save money, but this product has not been delivering even adequate performance. Totally unreliable service.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic product   August 31, 2010

While it's true that their tag line, "A minute's patience for a lifetime of savings" is inaccurate... it took me at least 30 minutes to get it initially set up... but after that I found it to be as good as it gets.

The sound quality is as good if not better than my land line. Furthermore, I found Customer Support via Chat to be prompt and very helpful. If the first tech couldn't solve the problem it was escalated to the next level of technical support.

I agree with whoever suggested that somebody's bad mouthing magicJack so that people won't buy it. I've kept my AT&T land line and reduced the service to Lifeline (60 local minutes a month). I just use it for incoming calls and make all outgoing calls via magicJack. For a $40.00 investment I'm savings $500.00/year.

I can't say enough good things about this product.

5 out of 5 stars An inexpensive alternative   August 29, 2010

I am a happy Magic Jack subscriber, who just purchased a second unit.

I use my Magic Jack, as an inexpensive alternative to cell phone service.

The home address and name of the user, is not ever listed in a directory, unless you give it out.

I intend to use this second unit to speak with strangers from the web,
without fear of releasing any personal information.

Each Magic Jack unit comes with 1 free telephone number.
This number can also be changed 1 time, without any fees.

Although at times the sound quality is intermittent, it usually works great.

If the sound quality is not great upon initial connection, a quick reconnection usually fixes the problem.
I simply call the person right back.

The sound and overall quality of the Magic Jack connection is perfect about 92% of the time. :) ENJOY!
