i had this phone working for about two weeks. after this period, an off white blinking screen appeared and remained permanently. Belkin suggested a replacement which i wasn't willing to do. i lost $79 and i learned my lesson. don't buy a specific phone. Skype is not a leader in the market, i had really good sound quality using google voice with x-lite from outside of the USA this year. don't buy it.
This phone has some major problems, but still functions okay for home use. September 2, 2010

1. My phone currently does not allow me to set which country it is in, so every time I make a call in the same town I live I need to put in the full international number like 00-1(555)555-1212 rather than just 555-1212 or even (555)555-1212.
2. It seems to not have proper DHCP implementation. It doesn't ask to renew DHCP leases when they expire. It just holds onto the IP address it has. This can cause a lot of trouble in a large network environment if you have more than 5-10 of these phones on a dynamic DHCP address pool. In this situation the DHCP server keeps trying to hand out addresses only to find they are currently in use. After a few failed attempts this results in no service for the person requesting an IP.
3. It appears Belkin has not release any firmware updates to address any of the problems with this phone.
Giving 1 star just because Bekin should release a firmware update to address these issues.

The phone looks good. But I somehow figured that it would have both an Ethernet and a USB connection. Absolutely no USB connection, so the product was worthless to me. I bought it to use it for Skype for an employee, but there weren't enough Ethernet ports in her office, so we had to connect it via a USB port in her computer. It's too bad ... the phone looks nice. I called Belkin to see if there was any way to convert it, and spoke with two people in technical support. They said it couldn't be done.

We got this for an older relative who's not comfortable with a computer, in order to use Skype overseas from Seattle. It's turned into a real source of joy. No problems with set up and use, and it's saving us paying Startec about $60 a month.

I bought this to replace a wireless Skype phone that I gave my daughter. I would have preferred a cordless, but they are much more expensive and have limited battery life. The Belkin corded unit arrived. It set up with no problem, but we were unable to use the handset; it was perpetually in the Speaker mode. Upon close examination, the switchhook was pushed in and apparently broken on the inside, making the phone think that the handset was never lifted. We returned the phone to Amazon and got a replacement within a few days. The replacement worked flawlessly. I really like the operation with a working switchhook. When the phone rings, you just pick up the handset like a normal phone. To disconnect, just put the handset back down on the hook.
The phone has all the features that a standalone Skype phone should have: No computer required, though it would be much more convenient if it used WiFi rather than hard wire only. As it is, you have to be near your router, especially a hassle since the phone is corded. The build quality seems a little lightweight for an office style phone. I don't see how it could be as reliable as the typical desk phones that get banged around a lot in the course of a business day. But other than the switchhook, I haven't had any reliability problems. One minor annoyance is that there seems to be no country setting for dialing prefix. In the true international sense, you have to prefix U.S. calls with a "+1" which you dial by typing "001". My previous Skype phone worked more like a landline phone when set for U.S. calling. Once you get used to dialing 001, it's not a hassle though. A bigger annoyance is that since dialing 00 generates the "+" symbol, you must dial numbers that contain double zeros very slowly. For example, if you are calling a toll free 800 number, you would dial 001800xxxxxxx. However, if you dial quickly, the phone will replace the 00 with a plus symbol, so you get +18+xxxxxxx, and the call won't go through. I read somewhere that people couldn't access tone services with this phone. My phone generates proper DTMF tones, and every IVR service that I've tried that uses keystroke menus (online banking, airline reservations, customer service) has had no problems navigating from this phone.
I love the fact that there is no battery to run down. It is powered by a small wall transformer. Sound quality is good. The speaker is plenty loud. And, as with any Skype phone, it's nice to have all of your contacts automatically loaded for you. The ringtones are pretty lame. It's an office style phone, so why not some business sounding ringtones?
